What is the Virtual Remembrance Run?

Remembrance Run is a unique event that encourages people of all levels of fitness to Walk or Run on a November Sunday morning, while remembering and dedicating their participation in the event to family or friends.

This year due to health and safety concerns we have decided to hold the event virtually in memory of – and to pay tribute to – all those who lost their lives to coronavirus. It will be a day when we pause and remember family and friends passed, or others close to us who may be currently struggling with illness or other life challenges.

 

When and where will the Remembrance Run take place?

The Remembrance Run will take place virtually on the 8th of November. We will be encouraging everyone taking part to start their walk or run at 11am in their locality while adhering to the latest government guidelines relating to Covid-19.

 

Who can register?

Anyone can register for Remembrance Run! There is no minimum or maximum age. We encourage everyone to participate.

 

What distance do I need to walk or run?

This year we are encouraging everyone to walk or run whatever distance they are comfortable with, whether that be 1, 3, or 5 kilometres.

 

How much is it to register?

Although we cannot come together in the Phoenix Park this year, we are encouraging everyone to join us on November 8th and dedicate your local walk or run to loved ones on this day of remembrance. Organisers are committed to having this as a free to enter event in 2020 so as that we can all share in this special day.

There will be an option to purchase a souvenir t-shirt when registering for the event.

How can I register for the Remembrance Run?

To register in the Virtual Remembrance Run, use the ‘Register’ button on the Home Page, or HERE.

 

Can I get a refund on my entry?

Unfortunately, there are no refunds available once you have entered online.

 

Can I buy a Remembrance Run t-shirt?

Yes of course! When you select your ticket type you can add in a souvenir Remembrance Run t-shirt into your cart. The t-shirts come in Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra-large and Double Extra Large sizes so there will be something for everyone.

T-shirts will be sent to you by post after November 8th.

 

Will there be a candle available this year?

Unfortunately, due to this being a virtual event it will not be possible for everyone to receive a candle this year. We have a limited number of candles available to purchase at the registration stage which will be offered on a first come first serve basis. We will try to facilitate as many requests for the candle as possible.

 

Can I support a charity?

We encourage participants to walk, jog or run to support a charity of your choice that is close to your heart.

 

What is the Virtual Wall of Remembrance?

Once again, we will have a special Wall of Remembrance, but this year it will be virtual. Every year, this wall is filled with signatures and messages from runners remembering close family and friends in this special way.

You will be able to view the Virtual Wall of Remembrance at RemembranceRun.ie and on the Remembrance Run Facebook Page on November 8th. Submission to the Wall of Remembrance can made made at the registration stage up until 3pm on November 6th.

 

Can I share a name on the online Wall of Remembrance?

Yes of course. You can share a name of a loved one on the Wall of Remembrance at the registration stage.

 

Can I share my memory?

Yes! Walk or Run & Remember someone who meant a lot to you on November 8th. You can share a memory of a loved one at the registration stage.

Tell us why you are taking part in this year’s Remembrance Run this year and we will show them on the virtual ‘Wall of Remembrance’.

 

I have never participated in a virtual event like this before?

Don’t worry! You can do this event at whatever pace you choose; walk, jog or run. Participation on the day is what counts.

Full information will be emailed to all registered participants in advance of November 8th.

 

Where can I find the participant information booklet?

An information booklet will be emailed to all participants closer to the event.

 

Can I submit my time, and will there be a leader board?

You will not be required to submit your time and there will not be a leader board for this event. The Remembrance Run is about remembering and dedicating participation to family or friends irrespective of how long your walk or run takes you.

 

When does the 2020 virtual Remembrance Run start?

We are encouraging everyone to start your walk or run at 11am on November 8th. There will be a live countdown taking place on the Remembrance Run Facebook page on the day. Please adhere to the latest government guidelines in relation to Covid-19 while taking part in Remembrance Run in your locality.

 

What happens after I have finished my walk or Run?

We invite you to head over to the Remembrance Run Facebook page and share your selfies with us sing the hashtag #RR2020. We will also have the virtual ‘Wall of Remembrance’ being broadcast via the Remembrance Run Facebook Page. Each finisher who has purchased a souvenir t-shirt can look forward to receiving it over the coming days and weeks depending on when the order was placed.

 

2020 Remembrance Run Live Broadcast

There will be a live stream and countdown via the Remembrance Run Facebook page on the morning of November 8th which will also incorporate our virtual ‘Wall of Remembrance’. We will be encouraging everyone to join us on the live stream as we countdown to lighting a candle for all those lost before setting out on our walk or run at 11am. The virtual ‘Wall of Remembrance’ will go live at 10am on Sunday November 8th and will remain live until 1pm.

 

What is a virtual Race?

A virtual race is a race that can be run or walked from any location you choose. Depending on the event it can be completed over a specified duration or on a specific day.

 

Where can I complete my virtual walk or run?

You should plan your run/walk route before starting your event. The run/walk should only be completed on a track, safe footpaths/pathways or within public parks public parks. Please follow government ‘Stay Safe’ guidelines and ensure you abide by social distancing advice.
